The Greek Mixed Martial Arts Federation announces with great honor and pride a historic moment for Greek MMA and Greek sports in general.
The President of the Greek Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Athanasios Barkas, was elected Vice President of the GAMMA European Confederation, now constituting the official Greek voice in the European and global arena of Mixed Martial Arts. The election took place in the context of the General Assembly of the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA), which was held in Loutraki, during the 2026 European MMA Championships.
The presence of Greek representation in the administration of the European Confederation is a recognition of the serious and systematic work carried out in recent years by the Hellenic Mixed Martial Arts Federation for the development, institutionalization and international upgrading of the sport in our country.
The Greek Mixed Martial Arts Federation is now a model Federation at an international level and is one of the few MMA Federations worldwide that have official state recognition as an autonomous sport and not as a sports discipline under another combat or non-sports Federation. This fact confirms the institutional maturity, seriousness and high level of organization of the Greek Federation.
The goal of the global MMA community is the recognition of the sport by SportAccord and the International Olympic Committee, paving the way for the future of Mixed Martial Arts at the highest sporting level.
With the experience, knowledge and know-how that Mr. Athanasios Barkas has through his many years in the field of sports and administration, he will contribute substantially to this new and particularly important arena of battle for the future of global MMA.
The new Board of Directors of the GAMMA European Confederation is as follows:
President Paolo Biotti (Italy)
Vice President Athanasios Barkas (Greece)
General Secretary Zenja Krantic (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Executive Members
Igor Rotaro (Moldova)
Kajesovs Andrejs (Latvia)
The GRMMAF continues with consistency and vision to work for the development of MMA in Greece, aiming at the international recognition of Greek athletes and the strong presence of our country in the international decision-making centers of the sport.
